On February 10, 2015, the Cabox Global Geopark initiative spanning the Bay of Islands Ophiolites from Lewis Hills to Tablelands held its second public meeting at the Grenfell Campus of Memorial University in Corner Brook. Special guest speakers included Alana Hinchey, Senior Geologist with the Newfoundland & Labrador Geological Survey and Mike Jones, President of Beyond Ktaadn and co-author of the recently published Eastern Alpine Guide.
The meeting began with IAT/IATNL Chairperson Paul Wylezol giving a review of developments since the last public meeting on June 10, 2014. These included attendance and poster presentation at the 4th Conjugate Margins Conference in St. John’s, NL from August 20-22, attendance and poster presentation at the 6th International UNESCO Conference on Global Geoparks in Saint John, New Brunswick from September 19-22, attendance at the International Appalachian Trail Annual General Meeting in Plymouth, England from October 6-9, a meeting with the President of La Fédération Francaise de la Randonnée Pédestre and Vice President of La Fédération Européenne de la Randonnée Pédestre in Paris, France on October 13, restoration work on the new Cabox base camp at Back Cove, North Arm of the Bay of Islands on October 22-23, membership in the European Union’s Interreg VB Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme’s Drifting Apart project in October, and the #1 Listing of 4 Amazing Adventure Travel Trips for 2015 by Explore Magazine.
